Deep’s “not so evil” lair

Benita and I had taken my parents and a friend whale watching to Gloucester MA this summer but I never posted any pictures or videos. Better late than never I guess.
It seems like we might just make this an annual affair. It is wonderful watching these humongous mammals in the wild. In addition to a half a dozen humpbacks we saw what I thought were 50 Atlantic White Sided Dolphins. The Marine Biologist on board mentioned it was more like 150 to 200 dolphins.

The whale in the videos and pictures was going through its feeding routine creating a flurry of activity. It seems that is what attracted the dolphins.

I wish I had a steadier hand though. The new Panasonic Lumix Z-3 camera is a fairly good camera though both in it’s resolution and zoom. The pictures and videos came out good. Any bad pictures should be attributed to the photographer in my case.

Always such a pleasure to spend time with Dinu, I was in St. Charles IL for some training and spent the weekend with Dinu a.k.a. Daka in Bloomington IL.

Here are some of our pictures from our whale trip last month. I also took some videos that I plan to upload to youtube or google video sometime soon. Needless to say, we thoroughly enjoyed the trip! My first time looking at any kind of baleen whales. We saw about 12 to 15 humpback whales, 2 finback whales, 2 Minke whales and even a 30 foot basking shark!

What started as a rainy day is looking bright and sunny now.

We decided to go whale watching on what seemed like a very gloomy day. Hoping that even if we do not get to see any, we’d still enjoy a great drive.
